ØLSTED KINDERGARTEN - OCCUPANCY

The newly built nursery section of Ølsted Kindergarten was inaugurated by the Mayor of the Municipality of Halsnæs on June 23rd - to the delight of children and staff alike. In a team with construction company HHM and engineering firm Niras, SITE designed the extension of about 300 sqm in Ølsted for the Municipality of Halsnæs (read more).

The nursery section has been built with strict demands on low energy consumption, in accordance with energy class 1. That means a total energy consumption of no more than half of what is required in the strict building code BR08.

The new section is designed to be a flexible unit, connected to the existing building by a sheltering roof – a concept that can be re-used in future extensions of the kindergarten. Day-light handling is essential, especially due to the compact form of the building, and day-light is provided by large windows and skylights.

The kinked exterior walls optimise playground spaces outside – and at the same time provide surprising spatial qualities and variation in the group rooms on the inside.
