SITE collaborates with Bentley Systems Scandanavia A/S in award winning innovation competition proposal Through 2009-10 SITE has been sparring partner for Bentley Systems in the development of a new technology for creating 3D-city models. The solution is called ‘On-the-fly 3D city and urban modelling’. The concept has recently won first prize in the category ‘Innovation in Government’ at Bentleys Be Inspired conference in Amsterdam, October 2010. The solution ’On-the-fly-3D city and urban modelling’ is based on the re-use of existing property registry data. This means that the solution can generate a precise and dynamic 3D geometric model based on a series of parameters in an existing data base. Updating of the 3D model happens automatically when the data base is updated. SITE is working further with Bentley in developing methods for the integration of ‘Building Information Models’ into 3D city models. The technology will add an ‘intelligent’ layer into 3D city models. Most 3D city models are dependent on periodic aerial laser scanning to keep the model up to date, furthermore these models represent only geometric data. By integrating BIM models into a 3D city model, a city model can also become a data rich information portal which also represents a precise and dynamic geometric environment. |
