SITE has won together with NCC first prize in a competition for an integrated kindergarten and day care adjacent to Asgård school in Køge. In a creative partnering process SITE and NCC have combined their skills to create a framework that builds upon and strengthens the relationship between the carers and children at “child level”.

The building’s form is a rectangular volume wrapping a twisted interior layout creating unique spatial experiences in all rooms.

The group rooms are organised around two central common rooms of which the largest functions as the building’s heart. This space, which is double high, gives access to all other rooms, a raised mezzanine and access to the playground.

The compact form is chosen in order to optimise the interior and reduce unnecessary corridors.

The facades are black rendered brick supplemented by lightweight façade elements with windows in varying heights to give contrast.

The project will be developed in partnering with NCC and Køge Council and is expected to be completed in 2009.
